10-Day Rwanda Wildlife, Chimpanzee Tracking, and Birding Safari: While the best period for bird watching is from December to February, the game drive is an all year round activity but highly recommended in dry season. The chimpanzees, very active primates jumping swiftly from tree to tree, are trekked as early as 4:30 A.M.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at the Airport, meet and greet our driver then be transferred to the hotel for check-in.
Day 2: Kigali- Akagera National Park
After breakfast, we drive eastwards to Akagera National Park but en route, stop at Muhazi Lake, along the lake with calm and peaceful waters for lunch and relax on the shores of this Lake listening to bird songs. After, proceed to Akagera Game Lodge for overnight and get ready for the next day safari.
Day 3: Akagera Game Drive
After breakfast at 7:30 P.M, enjoy a full day game drive and birding in the park, home to the big 5 and other wildlife animals like buffalos, Elephants, Lions, antelopes, Maasai giraffes, monkeys, savannah birds, civets, leopards, hyenas, Rhinos, zebra and many more. With an experienced and knowledgeable guide, you will be able to spot and easily site the animals in their natural habitat. Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge
Day 4: Cultural experience and Boat safari
After breakfast, enjoy a morning boat safari to Lake Ihema to explore closer the hippos, crocodiles and different water birds like the marabou stork, African fish Eagle, open build stock, herons, cormorants, etc. but you might get a chance to meet other animals like Elephants. Afterward, visit the surrounding communities to experience either the culture of cattle, local beer production, arts, and crafts or local festivities. Return to the hotel for relaxation and get ready for a night game drive to spot nocturnal animals and predators. Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge
Day 5: Akagera National Park- Kigali
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali and go for a city tour visiting: • Kigali Genocide Memorial, • Kandt Natural History Museum, • Presidential Palace Museum, • Nyamirambo Women Center, • Inema and Ivuka Arts • Nyabarongo river for bird watching • Night city tour Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel
Day 6: Kigali City Tour
After breakfast at 8:00 A.M, drive to Ntarama church, a genocide memorial site which is still containing the clothing, human remaining and artifacts of the 5,000 people who were killed during the Genocide. After Ntarama, visit the Nyamata Genocide Memorial church then drive back to Kigali to visit the Kimironko market. Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel.
Day 07: Kigali - Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast at 8:00 A.M, in the morning, you will be transferred to Nyungwe Forest NP with a stopover at to Nyanza King’s Palace which was the residence of King Mutara III Rudahirwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built. This Palace offers a detailed look into Rwandan traditional seat of their monarchy and is an impressive museum, restored to its 19th-century state. It is made entirely with traditional materials. Afterward, visit the Ethnographic National Museum with the finest ethnographic and archeological collections portraying Rwandan social and cultural aspects in Huye. On your way to Top View Hill Hotel for overnight, you will be enjoying a scenic drive through the forest.
Day 08: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk
Wake up very early and after breakfast, enjoy a morning chimpanzee tracking then spend the rest of the morning at leisure. In the afternoon, do a canopy walk, hanging 60m above the forest floor enabling you to have a panoramic view of the forest’s fauna and flora including bird watching. Overnight at Top view Hill Hotel.
Day 09: Nyungwe Forest NP- Kigali
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali and visit the CAPLAKI handcrafts village to buy last minutes’ souvenirs for family and friends back home. Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel.
Day 10: Departure
After breakfast, check out at the hotel and transfer to the airport. End of service.
