11 Days for mountain gorilla trekking tour experience, golden monkey, Nyiragongo Volcano hiking and game drive safari to Rwanda, DR Congo and Uganda, an-out-of ordinary wildlife vacation. A unique gorilla trip in the great lakes region of Africa, taking you through the wildlife highlights of Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo led by a local travel expert.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at the airport, meet and greet our driver then be transferred to the hotel for check-in. Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel. -/-/D
Day 02: Kigali City tour
After breakfast, go for a city tour visiting: • Kigali Genocide Memorial, • Kandt Natural History Museum, • Presidential Palace Museum, • Nyamirambo Women Center, After lunch, transfer to Musanze for overnight at La Palme Hotel. B/L/D
Day 03: Golden Monkey Trekking and Cultural visit
Breakfast will be served early in the morning and you will drive to the park headquarters for a briefing at 7:00 am. You will proceed with the Golden monkey trekking which takes 3 to 4 hours. After, visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village to understand the traditional way of living, dances, the kings’ stories, visiting schools, preparing local meals and many more. overnight at La Palme Hotel. Day 04: DR Congo border crossing and Leisure at Mikeno Lodge
After breakfast, transfer to Gisenyi and arrive at Grande Barriere border crossing by 10:30 am and ensure check-in with Virunga tourism office by 11:15 am. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. Staff will provide guests with gorilla and volcano trek permits at check-in. These permits must be presented before the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, guests will be transported to Mikeno Lodge at the Park headquarters in Rumangabo. On arrival to Mikeno, a late lunch will be served, and the afternoon can be enjoyed at leisure, including exploring Rumangabo’s several nature trails, bird watching or paying a visit to the Congohounds. Day 05: Gorilla trekking experience
After an early breakfast at Mikeno Lodge, guests will set off for the gorilla trek at Bukima Ranger Post. On arrival to Bukima, trekkers will meet their Ranger guides and local pisteurs to receive a briefing before starting the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of the group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorillas, trekkers will return to Bukima camp and then will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge where the remainder of the day can be spent relaxing on the lodge terrace or visiting the gorilla orphans at the Senkwekwe Center. Day 06: Nyiragongo Volcano Trek- Ascending
After breakfast at Mikeno Lodge, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post, the departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival at Kibati, climbers will receive a briefing and they can hire porters. The climb up the volcano takes around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit. B/L/D
Day 07: Nyiragongo Volcano Trek- Descending
Early in the morning, climbers will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. The average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere border crossing and our journey continues to Gisenyi for a boat trip in Lake Kivu. Day 08: Gisenyi-Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda
After breakfast, continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park. As one of Uganda’s outstanding treasures, the park is home to the famous tree-climbing Lions, Uganda kob, elephant, buffalo, hippo, baboons and chimpanzees, more than 500 species of birds have been listed for the park, making it a prime location for birdwatchers. Species recorded include the shoebill, black bee-eater, 11 types of kingfishers and a variety of falcons and eagles. B/L/D
Day 09: Game drives & boat cruise – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake very early and have early morning breakfast. At around 6:30 am, go for a game drive on the northerly parts of the park along the Kasenyi track. This is the best time for opportunities of viewing cats in action. Explore all the tracks in the park for a different game like Elephants, Uganda Kobs, Buffaloes, Jackson hartebeest, Oribis, and many others. After lunch at 2.30, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga for solitary Buffalo, Hippo and other animals at the edge of the channel as they cool off. So many bird species including the migrant ones like the terns and gulls congregate here in large flocks. Dinner and overnight at Bush Lodge. B/L/D
Day 10: Queen Elizabeth National Park- Kampala
After an early breakfast, drive to Kampala. Overnight at Forest Cottages Kampala. B/L/D Optional city tour in Kampala.
Day 11: Kampala-departure
After breakfast, do a short city tour in Kampala then transfer to the Entebbe for airport drop off. B/-/-
