Day 1: Kigali International Airport – Meet and Greet
You will be picked by your guide driver from the airport and transferred to the hotel. Take this time to relax from the long flight and recruit energy for the next day safari adventure. Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel or Mille Collines Hotel
Day 2: Kigali City tour
After breakfast, do a city tour visiting: • Kigali Genocide Memorial, • Kandt Natural History Museum, • Presidential Palace Museum, • Nyamirambo Women Center, • Campaign Against Genocide Museum • Kimironko market • Inema and Ivuka Arts • Night City tour Overnight at Chez Lando Hotel or Mille Collines Hotel
Day 3: Kigali - Nyungwe National Park
After breakfast, transfer to Huye with a stopover at Nyanza King’s Palace, the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built. The visit will continue to Butare Ethnographic Museum, the former National Museum of Rwanda then visit the Save Cathedral, the first Catholic Cathedral built in 1900. Proceed to Nyungwe forest NP for overnight at Nyungwe Top Hill View
Day 4: Huye- Bukavu (DR Congo)
After early breakfast, report to Uwinka starting point for the canopy walk, a 90m long and start the adventure for about 2 hours. After lunch, drive to Bukavu in DR Congo while enjoying a scenic drive through Nyungwe Forest National Park and Lake Kivu view. A Bukavu city tour will be done (if time allows) before an overnight at Coco Lodge or Panorama Hotel Bukavu
Day 5: Lowland Gorillas trekking- Royal Court
After early breakfast at 6:30 am, head to the Kahuzi- Biega National Park headquarters for the pre-trekking briefing. You visit a different group of your assigned habituated gorillas. The trek can take between one and four hours and the maximum time to spend with the gorillas is strictly 1 hour. After the trekking, go for a visit to the Royal Court for a historical and cultural visit. Overnight at Coco Lodge or Panorama Hotel Bukavu
Day 6: Tshibati Waterfalls and Lwiro Sanctuary
After breakfast, depart from the hotel to visit the Tshibati waters, a series of 3 magnificent waterfalls in Kahuzi-Biega National Park. Afterward, proceed to the Lwiro Sanctuary to visit the orphaned primates and other projects in this center. Return to Coco Lodge or Panorama Hotel Bukavu for overnight.
Day 7: Bukavu - Bujumbura City Tour
After breakfast at 7:00 A.M, drive to Ruhwa border (Rwanda- Burundi border) to meet the Burundi team then transfer to Bujumbura. On arrival, enjoy a city tour: • Albert’s crocodiles; • Islam Culture Centre; • The Explorers Memorial, a huge rock in the Suburbs of Bujumbura commemorating the meeting between explorers Livingstone & Stanley; • Independence hero mausoleum & Unity monument, • Belvedere Hill offering a nice of Lake Tanganyika and the city. • Enjoy a Tuk-Tuk tour on the shores of Lake Tanganyika • Relax at the beach Overnight at Safari Gate Hotel or Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel.
Day 8: Bujumbura-Gitega
After breakfast at 7:00 A.M, drive to the source of Nile then continue to Rutana to visit the amazing Karera waterfalls. Later, drive to Gitega to Gishora Drum sanctuary for a drum performance and cultural visit then the National Museum before driving back to Bujumbura. Overnight at Safari Gate Hotel or Club du Lac Tanganyika Hotel.
Day 9: Bujumbura half day visit - Airport
After breakfast, • Visit of ARFIC, the coffee processing factory in Bujumbura. Coffee and tea are the main export products and source of income for Burundi. During your visit, you will go through the coffee processing steps until the final product. A cup of coffee will be offered on the spot and you can buy coffee right from there. • Enjoy a boat trip in Rusizi river to explore closer the hippos and birds in Lake Tanganyika • Your guide can also improvise on any visit around the city, he is flexible and can always inspire you on new things to do. • After lunch transfer to the airport depending on your flight time. End of the tour.
